Auditions - Pride and Prejudice - May 1 and 2 at 7:00PM

Southwest Playhouse Inc. has set auditions for its last production of the 2016-2017 season, Pride and Prejudice, adaptation by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan, based on the novel by Jane Austen.

This production will be directed by Emma Brown. Emma directed Steel Magnolias last season, and co-directed And Then There Were None in April 2015. Emma is also a master tech operator and stage manager. She has been a part of the majority of the SWPH productions for over 5 years.

Pride and Prejudice is a romantic comedy where marriage is an inevitable fact of life for the five Bennet sisters – Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. With the family estate entailed away to their closest male cousin, their only hope to advance in life is to find a rich and single man – and one has just arrived in the form of the very handsome and very well-off Charles Bingley. The kindhearted and beautiful Jane seems poised to make a match, but must contend with her overly zealous mother, his snobbish sister, and a slippery social ladder. When Bingley’s taciturn friend Fitzwilliam Darcy shows an interest in the opinionated and spirited Elizabeth, the situation becomes more complicated than either of them expect. The fife and wit of Jane Austen’s classic 1813 romance shines through in this vibrant new adaptation.

Pride and Prejudice calls for 23-26 actors – 13-14 females and 10-12 males. The show is placed in different parts of England, therefore, there will be a British accent. This show has no parts for children. Character ages are suggestions. There are also 3 parts that have no lines but are very crucial to the show.

Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script. There will be a sample of the schedule at auditions. Please bring ANY conflicts you have or might have. Director Emma Brown also asks that you come a few minutes before 7pm to fill out your audition form.

If anyone is interested in helping with the production but doesn’t want to be on stage, please come to at least one of the audition nights and talk to Emma.

Auditions are again set for May 1st and 2nd, 2017 at 7pm at Southwest Playhouse, located on 6th and Nowahy in Clinton, Oklahoma. The production dates are June 9, 10, 11 and 16, 17, 18 and Media night is on the 7th. The Friday and Saturday shows and Media Night is at 7:30pm, while Sunday performances are at 2pm.
